The 10000 Buddhas Monastery is a Buddhist temple in the new territories. It was built in 1957 and the monks carried by foot all the materials along the mountain by themselves. It is also a sacred site in HK as well as classified as a Historic Building and no monks are living there anymore.
At the start of the path, there are more than 400 steps to climb but hopefully, Buddha’s statues are welcoming you.
The most amazing part is that there have all different shapes, sizes and representations…: smiling Buddha, fat Buddha, Buddhas discussing together, androgynous Buddha… you have plenty of choices to select your favorites.
Don’t even ask me to show you all of them, it is just impossible, there are too many of them!
At the top, the monastery has a giant pagoda and a temple with more than 13000 small Buddha statues on the walls. Again none of those small statues are the same…
You have access to the top of the pagoda to have a look at the green scenery of the New Territories around, it is just few more steps to climb...
We were not suppose to take pictures inside the temple, we didnt know it so we took first pictures and then a security guard told us it was forbidden.
I think this covered wall is worth a picture for you to see, but inside the temple there is also the corpse of the founder exposed and it could damaged it.
If you don't feel too tired yet, you can also climb to the top of the mountain, there is a smaller temple and still other Buddhas statues are there to watch you.
