I was waiting for a typhoon and especially a 8 one since I first came in Hong Kong and today is finally THE DAY! You wonder why ? Let me explain you...
Hong Kong is known for its typhoons from May to November, aven the word typhoon is said to come from a cantonese litteral translation "Tai Fung" which means big or great wind. When a storm is impacting the city, you may find useful information on the HK observatory website. It is said that you will find warnings everywhere but I am still wondering why I am the only one who never see those warnings! The scale used is the most important for people living here : Starting with the T1 signal - standby signal which means a typhoon is approching HK (around 800km) to the highest signal T 10 which is a hurrucane force wind with guts reaching 220km/h.
The good new is that from T8 to T10, you dont have to go to work as it is too dangerous to be outside! Exactly like this morning, and the T8 signal is still there since. Buses and MTR have been stopped and you are supposed to stay indoors for this time. It is better to have prepare it and to not stand at home without a lot of DVDs, drinks and food... however as I was working from home yesterday evening, I had my laptop and I could work almost the whole day as if I was in my office!
