Since last week, winter is coming to Hong Kong. Just to irritate my French friends, I have to share what winter temperature in December means for HK… It is around 17-19 degrees Celsius! Yes, whatever is below 20 degrees is a cold weather here!
Last Thursday was the first day of “cold” temperature in HK. Even the HK observatory (sort of our “Meteo France”) issued a warning for cool weather!
I was well aware of it in the morning when I was getting ready for work, so instead of only a short-sleeve shirt, I decided to put on a thin sweater. While I walked to the office, I was so surprised to see locals people wrapped in huge winter coats and scarves - some of them even carried hats and gloves! In comparison, I also walked through expats who were still in T-shirts and shorts…
However going in two days from 32 to 20 degrees is a bit of a thermal shock I can admit. But com’on guys, don’t you think a winter coat is too much for those days?
Don’t be jealous coz’ in January and February, temperature will continue to drop to 8-10 degrees I guess and with the ambient humidity here, it feels worst than 0 C in Paris. AND like in South Africa, it is super cold indoor as houses/buildings don’t have proper central heating! Happy now?
