A french play in Hong Kong

Last week I had the chance to see a french play in Hong Kong named "Le Diner de Cons" - "The dinner Game". Thanks to Xavier who managed to buy two seats at the beginning of the sell as it was fully booked in few days only!

It is presented by an amateur theater association and offers english subtitles. However, majority of the public that night was french!

A quick resume of the play : Pierre Brochant, a parisian publisher, attends a weekly event called "idiots dinner". The goal of this dinner is simple; each guest must bring along an "idiot" who the other guests can laugh at during the meal. At the end of the dinner, the champion will be selected.

No need to give you the whole story as I am pretty sure most of my readers are french and do already know this movie...

This play was well executed and as funny as the movie! The english subtitles are a strange concept for me as it might be difficult to understand and appreciate the full potential of the show while reading the screen for translation. I do understand that for non french speaking people, it might be necessary but I am not sure it is really bringing foreigners to watch this play.

The actors were perfect and I especially liked Cheval which is also the funniest character of this play. I can't wait for the next show this amateur troup will perform and I strongly recommend it to you if you missed it this time!

Hong Kong French community is definitely 100 % with you guys and you have just give us the perfect answer to the lack of cultural french play in this city... Not saying that there is no other cultural french event in Hong Kong (French May, French Cinepanorama and co are huge already) but I was missing a good french theater and there you are!
